Workshop Description:
In synthesis science, collaboration on code products is often integral to the productivity of the group. However, learning to use the software and graphical user interfaces that support this kind of teamwork can be a significant hurdle. This difficulty can limit adoption and narrow participation–even when a majority of team members recognize the importance of such tools.
This workshop is aimed at helping participants gain an understanding of the fundamental purpose and function of “version control” systems–specifically Git and GitHub–to help teams code more collaboratively, effectively and confidently. Focusing on the collaborative aspects of coding, the workshop will be relevant to non-coders, new coders, and coders who are moving from an individual to a collaborative coding environment.
Participants should come ready with Git and RStudio installed on their laptop, and have a GitHub account as well (detailed instructions available at SciComp Workshop - Collaborative Coding with GitHub - Overview).
