Our colleagues at the UC Natural Reserve System (UCNRS) are hiring for a new data scientist position. Please see more details below from Kerri Johnson, the Project Data Manager at the UCSB Natural Reserve System and reach out to her directly with any questions (knjohnson@ucsb.edu)

We are looking for a data scientist to explore time-series weather and environmental sensor data collected over the last 5 years from the Santa Cruz Island Reserve. This is an opportunity to work with the University of California Natural Reserve System (UCNRS) Weather Station Team and become familiar with the full data lifecycle from participating in the deployment of weather stations on Santa Cruz Island, CA, to metadata curation, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of scientists. The Environmental Sensor Data Specialist will be a part of the UC Santa Barbara Wildfire Resilience Project working to understand relationships between weather, soil moisture, plants, prescribed burns, erosion, and long-term ecosystem change. If interested, the Environmental Sensor Data Specialist could have some flexibility to tailor the work to their research interests including fog, live fuel moisture, the impact of microclimate on landscape and ecosystem evolution, using time-series environmental sensor data in conjunction with spatial data, and/or using environmental sensor data to constrain models. This is an 9-month contract position with the possibility of continued employment as funding allows. Remote work is negotiable with multi-day travel to remote areas of Santa Cruz Island, CA. See the full job description and apply here . The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
