EDI is moving to the cloud!

Hello everyone,

As many of you know by now, EDI is moving its repository services from local infrastructure to the cloud (Amazon Web Services, to be precise). This is very exciting and will lead to service improvements and new repository features, but as the transition completes there will be changes that affect how EDI users access data, including data from LTER sites. Most notably, users will be required to sign in to EDI to download data. For more information, please see the announcement from our lead developer, Mark Servilla, here.

More updates, and a documentation and outreach effort, are in the works for the weeks ahead. We are very much hoping to hear feedback from our colleagues and data users in the LTER Network. Please feel free discuss in the thread below, or reach out to us at info@edirepository.org to share your comments and concerns.

Updates:

  • The main EDI portal moved to AWS yesterday. Please let us know if you experience issues.
  • Sign-in requirements for data downloads are not yet implemented, but plans and accompanying documentation are in progress.
  • There is now a draft FAQ document for questions from our community about the changes at EDI. I’ll continue to monitor this forum thread as well.
